The value of grass

The value of grass as a livestock feed is often undervalued.  This calculator uses the costs of alternative standard bought-in feeds to calculate the value of the grass as a feed and also calculates the cost of nitrogen fertiliser to grow the grass as a proportion of the value of the grass.

The calculations of grass value are based on the comparative costs of 'standard' feeds using 'book values' for dry matter, protein content and energy values, based on the AHDB Dairy 'relative feed values calculator'.

Recommended fertilisers

The following grassland fertilisers are recommended

YaraBela NUTRI BOOSTER
25% N + 5% SO3, Na and Se - Unique compound fertiliser for use on grass based on nitrate nitrogen and sulphur coupled with selenium.
YaraMila STOCK BOOSTER S
25-5-5 +5% SO3 + Na and Se - A compound prilled NPKS fertiliser containing selenate for use on grassland to supplement selenium levels.
YaraMila SILAGE BOOSTER
20-4.5-14.5 + 7.5% SO3 + Na and Se - A granular compound NPKS fertiliser containing selenate for use on grassland to supplement selenium levels.
YaraBela AXAN
27% N + 9% SO3 - Granular uniform compound nitrate based nitrogen and sulphur fertiliser for use on all crops.
YaraMila EXTRAGRASS
27-5-5 + 6% SO3 - Compound granular fertiliser with sulphur with the ideal ratio for grazed or mown swards to get the grass off to a good start early in the season.
YaraMila NK SULPHUR
24-0-13 +5% SO3 - Compound fertiliser suitable for high phosphate, low potash soils deficient in sulphur.
